Steven Moffat of Doctor Who announced in a news event on 21st march 2012, that Coleman will be replacing Karen Gillan after she and Arthur Darvill had left. Moffat said that he chose Coleman for the role of companion due to her ability to be the best companion for Smith. Also, Moffat noted that she spoke faster than Smith. She has been much prominent on TV as opposed to films. Eva has appeared in a number of television characters, however the roles of Dr. Maria Santos from All My Children and Detective Natalia Boa Vistas from CSI Miami have stood out. The first role she played on TV earned her 2 Daytime Emmy nominations, and allowed her to develop her passion for music. Eva is an entrepreneur as well as an actress. Eva has had three marriages and also has a daughter with her previous husband.
